Chief Executive Blog – June 2019

Posted 14th June 2019

Welcome to the latest blog. I don’t think I can remember a June with so much sport on the go – it is obviously great if you are a tennis fan, a football fan enjoying the Football World Cup or the Euro qualifiers or a cricket fan enjoying the World Cup! If you are not a sport fan then I’m not sure what is occupying your time as it certainly isn’t the sunshine…

In this edition you will hear about:

  • An update on recruitment of the Chief Executive
  • 30th Anniversary celebrations
  • Training certificates
  • SVQ – update on the next two cohorts
  • HYG success
  • Fair Deal Quality Forum
  • Connecting You – what’s in a name?

Recruitment of the Chief Executive: The interviews for the Chief Executive post were held on the 6th of June. Three Board members; Kenny Stocks, Jan Beattie and Paul Allen formed the interview panel. Feedback from the Board has been very positive and we hope to be in a position to confirm the successful candidate within the next couple of weeks. Once everything has been confirmed a letter will be sent to everyone notifying you of the successful candidate and start date.

30th Anniversary celebrations:

Afternoon Tea: We had a very successful afternoon tea on the 6th of June at the Birgidale Complex. We were pleased to welcome Josie Macliver a founder member of Fair Deal to the event alongside Jack Rankin, Christine Devine, Maggie Hart and Geraldine Baird who also served on the Board and Tracey Black a current member. The event was a huge success and an opportunity to celebrate with people we have been working with; Peter Duff, John Cuthbertson, Betty Cuthbertson, Sharon Kennaway, Carol Gemmill, Laura Cunningham and the staff who provide the support. EVH gave us a substantial donation and several of their staff came along on Thursday. There was so many people and I would like to thank each and everyone of our staff who came along supporting someone or helping with the organisation. I would also like to thank HYG and volunteers from Morgan Stanley Bank. Finally, congratulations to Laura Cunningham on winning the raffle.

Fair Deal Fun Day: Our next 30th Anniversary event will be held on the 25th of June at Fernhill. Please contact the office for tickets.

Training certificates: As you know we have been running a phenomenal amount of training. If you have attended training and don’t have your certificates please pop in to the office and speak to one of our Business Support Team. You may will need the certificates for your SVQ. If you have any questions please e-mail me on: annmariedocherty@fair-deal.org

The next SVQ cohort: We have just finalised the staff who will be going forward with their SVQ level 3 and a letter will be sent to participants. We have two cohorts of 10 and the training will begin in August. For more information please contact your team leader.

HYG success: The HYG gardening group are finalists in the Evening Times Streets Ahead award. The group will be at the City Chambers for the awards ceremony on Tuesday the 18th of June. Fingers crossed that the group are successful. Keep a look out for our tweets. Any questions please e-mail Gail Cochrane on gailcochrane@fair-deal.org

Fair Deal quality forum: The latest quality forum was held on the 11th of June. One of the decisions taken at the meeting was in relation to how we communicate what the group has looked at with you and we agreed that we will forward an outline of the decisions reached at the meeting. If you have any questions please contact Anne Marie Borthwick on annemarieborthwick@fair-deal.org

Connecting You: We have set up a new opportunity at the Jeely Piece club for older people. We named this Connecting You and at the Quality forum we talked about the social and leisure programme and considered the name. So what is in a name? Well quite  a lot really and following discussion we are looking to change the name of our social and leisure programme and day opportunities to Connecting You. So, going forward we will market our services as: Fair Deal Connecting You @ Fernhill or @ on Board or @ The Hub @ Ardentinney etc. We are linking with Strachan Gray to talk about marketing our new brand. If you would like more information please contact Ryan McCrory on ryanmccrory@fair-deal.org

I hope you have enjoyed this edition of our regular blog
