At the moment most of the money to fund Fair Deal's work is through contracts to provide support for individuals on behalf of the local authority. This is done through a process called commissioning, where the local authority decides what it requires for the people who need support.
They then purchase the support on behalf of the people from a provider organisation such as Fair Deal. The Provider then agrees to provide the service which the local authority pays for and monitors regularly to make sure the organisation is providing what it should be and that it is working for the person being supported.
The money Fair Deal receives for this work is what pays the staff and the bills associated with the organisations day to day business. The introduction of Self Directed Support will change how Fair Deal is likely to secure its funding in the near future. You can find out more about that by clicking on the green self directed support button above.
