Una is the Chairperson for Fair Deal. She provides leadership and ensures the Board Meetings all go smoothly. She has particular responsibility for working closely with  Ann Marie Docherty, the Director. She is also responsible for any voting arrangements where neccessary as well as the usual decisions taken by the Chairperson.

Drawn to involvement in Fair Deal through her personal experiences and involvement in the Carers Network, Una is driven by her strong belief in human rights, especially the rights of people with learning disabilities. She has worked in the voluntary sector supporting people with developing literacy and numeracy skills as well as encouraging them into jobs.

Previously employed by SACRO she worked in victim - offender mediation and laterally as an assessor and internal verifier for mediation. Una brings positive leadership and a wealth of experience which she uses for the benefit of Fair Deal. Out with her involvement in Fair Deal, Una can be found in her local church, Cathcart Trinity, often serving lunches, clearing tables and doing dishes!

Jan Beattie

Jan is the newest member of the Board although she has known about and been impressed by the work of Fair Deal for a number of years. She is particularly inspired by what Fair Deal does and how it does it. Jan thinks that Fair Deal is a dynamic and exciting organisation and one she is really happy to be part of, especially since she has seen it grow positively over the years.

The positive culture and huge committment from those involved in all aspects of Fair Deal's work is what makes it unique and according to Jan the improvement in people's lives makes everything they do so worthwhile.Jan herself is the Director of her own Consultancy Company which she has run over the last 11 years.

She brings to Fair Deal significant skills in business, competitive tendering, financial planning and targeting as well as juggling the needs of a wide range of clients. When not at work Jan is happier in water than on land and enjoys spending time in the Kyles of Bute pottering about on her wee fishing boat. This may have something to do with being a mermaid in a previous life!

Kenny Stocks

Kenny is the Treasurer of Fair Deal. He is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the organisation and ensuring that they fulfil their aims and objectives. It is his job to ensure they operate effectively within their financial limits and within the law. Kenny has been the Director of Ardenglen Housing Association since 1990 and seen fantastic changes in Castlemilk.

He has been a Board Member and Treasurer of Fair Deal since 2005 and believes Fair Deal and Ardenglen have formed a close and unique working partnership which benefits everyone in their community. He says they share the same values of fairness to all and he is passionate about supporting everyone to have the best quality of life possible and giving people real choice about how and where they live.

Kenny has seen Fair Deal grow massively in size and complexity but believes the organisation has never lost sight of its founding principles of not only providing the highest standards of support but actively campaigning to expand the opportunities for people with learning difficulties. It is an organisation he is proud to be associated with.

Outside of work as well being a keen allotment holder, Kenny who was born in Leith and despite 35 years in Glasgow, has kept his season ticket for the first team to wear the green - the mighty Hibernian FC!

Elspeth Mann

Elspeth is a member of Fair Deal's Board and works as a housing manager for Key Housing Association, where she has been employed for 24 years. She has seen the transormation in peoples' lives when they move into their own homes supported by dedicated support staff. Elspeth recognises that is is not just the security of having your own 'front door' which makes a difference but having the opportunity to access local facilities to be part of the community.
Elspeth's main interests are in outdoor activities. She is a 'buddy' for sailors in specially designed sailing dinghies called Challengers, for people with disabilities. This involves sitting at the back of the boat and helping the sailors to race the boat through the wind and waves and sometimes even the glorious sunshine!

Flora Lamont

Flora has been a Board Member with Fair Deal for 7 years. She has known the organisation from its beginning and has always been impressed by how, with growth and change over the years, it has always maintained the ideals it has always held. She was therefore delighted to become a Board Member when she gave up working full time.
Flora had worked in teaching and social work with most of her experience being in accommodation services for people with a learning disability in both the local authority and the voluntary sector. She also did some work as a sessional tutor for the Worker's Educational Association which was very flexible and allowed her to make frequent visits to Spain a country she loves. Flora is now happily retired and after living in Alicante for a year she spends as much time as possible soaking up the sun and improving her Spanish by chatting to the locals!
Flora continues to enjoy being on the Board but also having the opportunity to meet a wide range of people involved with Fair Deal and being a small part of a great organisation.

Maureen Dolan

Picture of Maureen Dolan one of the Fiar Deal Board members face

Maureen has been a Board Member at Fair Deal for about two years. She became involved through her sister who was supported by Fair Deal and at the time was thrilled to see her sister blossom through the support and encouragement she received.

Maureen was particularly impressed by the support but also the relationship that was developed between the family at that time and the support team that supported her sister. After the sad death of her sister Maureen continues to be involved with Fair Deal.

She brings the perspective of family members to the Board and has skills and experience in education. Maureen is a tutor at Glasgow University and in her spare time she likes nothing better than 'getting away from it all' whether on a sunny beach in Spain, a walk on the Scottish Hills or a cycle round Millport!
