The Machrie Development Officially Launched!

Machrie Houses were officially opened on Friday 2nd September. Fair Deal has been working in partnership with Cassiltoun Housing Association who have converted their former office at 70 Machrie Rd, Castlemilk into 6 flats for rent. The offices were built in 2000 and have been vacant since 2007 when Cassiltoun Housing Association relocated their operations across the road to Castlemilk Stables.

The housing model will offer 6 new homes fully accessible and designed to the specific needs of the people who will live there as well as being fitted out with the latest ‘smart technology‘. Look at the pictures in the Gallery.

Fair Deal has been instrumental in achieving this fantastic opportunity for new bespoke housing for some of the people they currently support who are extremely excited about their new homes.

Each new tenant has been fully involved in designing the layout and particular features necessary to ensure their support needs and personal care needs are fully met in a way that maximises their independence.

It is a significant redesign of the building which Cassiltoun are funding in the interim to allow continued progress while some funding support is being sought from Glasgow City Council. The overall cost of the project is in the region of £0.5million.

The appointment of a main contractor was made in December allowing work to commence early in January. The refurbished houses are now complete and fully occupied with individuals settling nicely into their new homes.

The new houses will be a positive use of what had become a derelict building and was a bit of an eyesore on the local landscape.

It is an example of Fair Deal‘s innovative thinking for the benefit of the people it supports and the overall community where they live.
