One of the reasons Fair Deal is successful is because we provide an excellent quality of support for people. We do this by recruiting a wide range of staff who have a variety of skills and abilities. People who use the support of Fair Deal are actively involved in the staff selection process.
We make sure that people who come to work for Fair Deal understand our values and the core principles we operate. When staff are recruited we provide training which helps them carry out their job well. The training is informed by the people we support as is the ongoing development of staff.
Fair Deal had a staffing structure set out as two branches which allowed for a flat management arrangement with support and training for staff within the branches. This changed on 1st April 2013 with there now being a single Team approach. This means the people we support are well connected with staff and have made their needs clear. Staff can support them in a way that recognises their personal preferences and choices. Staff work in small core groups to develop new skills, share learning and experiences as they continue to improve their support to people.
All staff are supported by their well trained line manager. Ann Marie Docherty the Director works closely with staff in their Branches facilitating learning and development. She makes arrangements for external trainers and people with significant knowledge and experience to be involved in keeping staff up to date with new policies and their impact as well as current practice. She supports the opportunity for full staff teams to get together and branches working to support each other to let this happen.
